The Role of the Youth in Sudan’s Development – Forum

As part of its efforts to be an active citizen, Haggar Group, through its Corporate Sustainability & Social Impact Department continues its contribution to the community we live in through engaging key stakeholders via a series of stakeholder forums in a topic of high importance to the country and its development.

In light of recent developments in Sudan and the revolution mostly led by the youth, Haggar opted to focus on the role of the youth in the development of the country including the challenges and opportunities they face.

The forum was held on the 24th of July 2019 in Salam Rotana Hotel and was facilitated by Mr. Husameldin Omer Elnasri. The papers presented tackled the economic challenges and opportunities of the country, the importance of building the capacity of the youths, challenges with employability as well as the importance of having a sub-regional view to youth development.

Key speakers were the economic experts Ms. Mayada Abdelazim and Mr. Awab Elmusbah who addressed the economic challenges and prospects of the country with a focus on the youths; followed by Dr. Hamida Elnus – Yalla Nabadir’s Director who stressed on the importance of comprehensive youth capacity development programs. Mr. Ali Muntasir – Youth and Innovation focal point in UNDP Sudan discussed UNDP’s interventions on Youth frontiers shaping change in Sudan.

Mr. Mutaz Tarig, a student about to graduate, has shared with the audience the results of a survey that addressed the gaps and potential solutions of youth employability and last but not least, Eng. Ahmed Elmurtada – Managing Partner at 249Startups, delved into the challenges and the way forward for the emerging business startups scene in Sudan.

The forum attracted a large audience from the private sector, the public sector, NGOs, embassies, UN agencies, business startups and youth activists.
